Ensuring that candidates and parties are fully aware of and understand the various stages of the electoral process is vital to the success of an election and the acceptance of results. The Joint Electoral Management Body (JEMB) Secretariat is actively engaged in ensuring that those parties and candidates participating in Afghanistan's 2005 Wolesi Jirga and Provincial Council elections have an avenue to both receive information and make enquires concerning their roles and responsibilities.
Areas of focus include the candidate nomination period, the finalization of the candidate list, the creation of the ballot, the campaign period (including the code of conduct), accreditation and observation, polling day activities and post-election activities.
In addition to daily contacts throughout the country with candidates and political parties and regular distribution of material, the JEMB Secretariat holds a bi-weekly Political Party Consultative Forum, where political party representatives are given the chance to discuss primary issues of concern and receive timely information relating to the current stage of the electoral process.
